Educational programmes for early years setting and primary schools

Karen has been visiting settings across Northamptonshire since 2013, delivering tailored sessions to nurseries and primary schools supporting children's communication, social skills and emotional wellbeing through stories, songs, signs and movement. As an avid reader herself she has also enjoyed been invited to host workshops during the Summer Reading Challenge at libraries and has led a storytelling group for parents to encourage how to tell stories to their babies and demonstrating various ways stories can be shared together. She is a story massage and baby massage instructor and trained as a storyteller with the performer Jo Blake.

 

Communication Connections

A programme to support children's language development focusing on the Communication and Language part of the EYFS. Each session focuses on a theme which can be extended over a number of weeks to allow learning through repetition and includes opportunities to listen, talk, extend vocabulary and develop social skills by playing games.

Imagination Play Box

Imagination Play Box is a weekly half an hour session where children have the opportunity to learn through stories by pretending to be different characters and becoming part of the story. Each structured session includes listening games, story sequencing, role play and narrative development with the opportunity to become a storyteller and story actor.

Wellbeing and Wonder

Wellbeing and Wonder workshops are aimed at preschool children. Each 30 minute session includes fun ways to feel good about ourselves, self regulation strategies including singing and moving, being mindful and supporting emotional literacy and positive touch through story massage. To get the full benefit from the sessions the maximum recommended number per group is 12.

Communication, Sign and Play

A programme to support social and communication development for children with SEND through signs, symbols, songs and games, based upon the principles of interactive music and rapport communication.
